5th Grade Music

5th Grade

5th grade is learning how to read music.  As we play the recorder we have learned the notes B, A, G and where they are placed on the music staff. We are playing 3 songs for the Christmas Program being held on December 2nd (Tuesday) at the Roper Auditorium.  We need to be in our seats with our family before 7:00 pm.  Please help me remember to take my recorder so I can go on stage and join my classmates.

All 5th graders should have their own recorders by now.  They cannot pass songs off or earn beads without having their own recorder.  If your 5th grader does not have their own recorder, or forget to bring their recorder to music class, they will receive a Refocus Sheet as a reminder of their responsibility to be prepared for music block.  Thanks for supporting your student's success in class by having their own recorder.  If your child still needs one, you may still purchase one from the Perrine Music Department for $6.00.  If you send money or a check, please send the right amount in change or written on the check.  I do not always have change.
Your child will need a recorder through out the year until after our Recorder Program in the Spring.
If you need to contact Mrs. McDonald, please e-mail:mcdonaldga@tfsd.org.  I'm sorry you cannot call and leave a message, Mrs. McDonald does not have access to a  phone  in the back of the Multi-Purpose Room (lunchroom).

We have been learning notes on the staff and getting ready to put on our play, "The Reindeer Whisperer".  We are holding try-outs now and soon will have the names of the players.  We are great singers and show enthusiasm in learning the songs.   We have also been learning about music symbols: D.S. al Coda, Da Capo al Fine, repeat signs, note and rest values.

For the Christmas Program, we'll be elves, so we need to find what we will be wearing.  Suggestions will be given as a handout and placed in my Monday Folder.  If you have questions, Mrs. McDonald's e-mail is: mcdonaldga@tfsd.org.
If we are not one of the characters in the play, then we need to be dressed as an elf.  Cute Christmas dress or t-shirts will be great.  Elf hats or scarves will look awesome, but a stocking cap or Christmas cap will also do.  The main thing is that we just come and participate.

4th Graders will need to have their own personal recorder by January 12, 2015.   They will need a recorder for all of the 3rd quarter and though out 5th grade.  A flyer will come in the Monday Folder on November 17th.  Please save $6.00 to purchase one.

3rd Grade Music

Third Grade

We are getting ready for the Christmas Program.  We have 2 great songs we will sing and then our fun lightshow with the black lights and the florescent sticks.   We are singing seasonal songs and learning some music theory: note values (how long you hold a note/pitch) rhythm ( short and long sounds with rests)

Our performance will be Dec. 2nd at Roper Auditorium on the Twin Falls High School Campus.  I need to wear dark colors and NO WHITE because the white show up too much under the black lights.  We want to show off our rhythm sticks.  I can wear Christmas colors and sparkly things.  We will need to be at the performance dressed and ready to go on at 7:00 pm.

2nd Grade Music

2nd Grade

We are having fun with music.  We are beginning to learn about music dynamics.  Music has soft sounds and loud sounds.  Music terms are introduced to us and the words are in Italian.  We learned about Ludwig Van Beethoven this quarter and how he decided to compose "Ode to Joy" when he could not hear anymore.  We can choose to be happy and songs can help us feel good.  We have been dancing, singing, and using our music books to see the notes and the text.  We are learning how to find pages in our book clear up to the 400 numbers.  Did you know that songs can tell stories?

1st Grade Music

We are singing and learning beat vs. rhythm.  Beat goes with the music and has a steady pulse.  Rhythm goes with the words and has short, long and silent pulses.  We dance, use rhythm sticks.  We sing songs with mostly pitches so, mi. and la.  An example is the song "Rain, Rain".  "Rain, rain, go away. Come again some other day."  We reinforce reading by reading the text projected from a PowerPoint presentation.  We have counting songs and follow my direction songs.  We love singing seasonal songs thought out the year.
